Already Get SNAP? You May Be Halfway There.
Households on SNAP often qualify for fuel assistance, which can open the door to free weatherization, heating system help, and appliance replacement.
From SNAP to Savings in Three Steps
1
You get SNAP
SNAP is run by the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA).
3
Unlock energy programs
Fuel assistance eligibility can help you qualify for no-cost weatherization, heating system repair or replacement, appliance replacement, and a discounted electric rate.
Availability depends on your home and current program rules.
The Fuel Assistance Limits Are Higher Than You Think
Fuel assistance income limits are higher than SNAP limits. For example, a household of 4 can earn up to $103,049 a year and still qualify for fuel assistance. If you already get SNAP, you very likely fit well under the number. Check your household size on our Fuel Assistance page.
You May Qualify and Not Know It
Massachusetts uses a higher income limit for SNAP than the federal minimum, so many working households qualify. The Department of Transitional Assistance decides eligibility.

Once You Qualify, We Take It From Here
First Light helps you turn your eligibility into a finished project. We chart the path through the Mass Save and state program requirements and handle the paperwork, so you never have to touch a form.

SNAP is administered by the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance, which determines SNAP eligibility. Fuel assistance and other energy programs have their own rules, and eligibility is determined by local agencies and program administrators. Program rules can change. First Light is not the SNAP or fuel assistance agency. Not all households will qualify. Last reviewed October 2026.
